With clever compartments, hydration systems, and even built-in solar chargers for your gadgets, your backpack can carry your burdens while you conquer the Waytrails. Clever tips on how to pack your backpack? You might think ‘I know how to pack!’ but somethings are just worth knowing.
A 60L backpack is the ideal for (up to) 5 day trips. If you are going for longer then consider the 85L. Check out the best 65L for 2024.
85L backpacks range from £80 - £300 but if your backpack is going to look after you, you may as well invest in one that will do that job properly.
- You’re carrying it so prioritise weight and packability. We love ligo’s selection of the best solo tents of 2024 for it’s price ranges and easy pro/con reviews.
- Sleeping bag. Sleep is so important, especially after a long day on the trail. For a good sleeping bag, the price matches the type of insulation, sustainability, and what it is designed for ie trekking or weekend camping. Livefortheoutdoors list some of the best sleeping bags out there. Look for ones that are not bulky and for the right season. (We use silk sleeping bag liners for longer treks. Soft and temperature regulating, it also protect your sleeping bag from sweat meaning they feel cleaner on multi-day trips.)
- Sleeping mat. This is revolutionary for camping on the trails. The technology is now that you can carry a super light weight sleep mat to enjoy a good nights sleep, even on bumpy ground. We love the Therm-a-rest neoair xlite nxt £179. There are mats from £29 but it really depends on how much you invest in your sleep!
- Trekking Poles. So not so much space takers as companions. We didn’t know what we were missing until we tried these metal mates. Distributing the weight of your pack and body more evenly, and help reduce the strain on your knees, ankles, and feet. These poles will be your trusty guides. We can recommend a pair of Leki Makalu FX Carbon AS Poles.
